Margaret Atwood Birthday Fete
Just as we did in November of last year, admirers of the work of Margaret Atwood in Sudbury, Ontario will gather to celebrate her birthday. This year, a dinner will be held at one of the city’s finest downtown restaurants, and half of the price of dinner tickets will be donated to Laurentian University’s innovative Living with Lakes Centre whose study of stressed aquatic systems matches Ms. Atwood’s environmental concerns.
Mr. Ashley Thomson of the Laurentian University library, author of a forthcoming exhaustive bibliography of works by and about Ms. Atwood, will be the Master of Revels and will propose a toast to her. Students from the Laurentian University English Arts Club will recite environmentally sensitive passages from her work. A short DVD describing the Living with Lakes project will be premiered at the event.
Atwood lovers everywhere are encouraged to mark the occasion of her birthday, November 18th, with similar fetes both diverting and useful. For the Atwood Dinner website in the English Department at Laurentian University (http://english.laurentian.ca/atwooddinner/), we request information about your celebrations. Please send them to Kelly Smith: kesmith@laurentian.ca. |
