The Chicana and Chicano Studies Department offers a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Chicano Studies plus a minor. The Chicana/o and other Latino
historical experiences are used a points of departure toward a expanding
awareness of the multicultural world and the contributions of Chicanas/os.
The program is designed to assist in the preparation of scholars, human
service providers, and teachers. REQUIRED COURSES Introduction to Chicana/o Studies History of Meso-America: Pre-Columbian and Colonial Periods History of the Chicana/o in the Southwest: 1910—Present Survey of Chicana/o Literature The Chicana/o Community Research Experience in Chicana/o Studies Elementary Spanish I Elementary Spanish II Intermediate Spanish Subtotal…………….31 credit hours Electives: Nine semester hours of electives in Chicana/o Studies are required and must be selected in consultation with the department chair.
