Pay For Print Begins July 1

The Auraria Library will begin charging users to print pages from its workstations. Starting July 1, the cost for each printed page will be 15 cents. Library staff have provided the following Q&A.

Why is the Auraria Library charging for printing from the library workstations? While the library was glad to offer users the ability to make high-quality printouts from its workstations, the service was never without cost. The library paid over $100,000 each year to offer printing. Because of budget cuts that may exceed $1 million, the library can no longer afford to subsidize printing. We believe our users will prefer to pay 15 cents per page for printing rather than see the service disappear altogether.

Will cash be required or will we use a "venda" card? We will use "venda" cards. There will be a machine that dispenses cards and adds value to them. It will not make change. The machine will take paper money. The circulation desk will not sell cards or make change.

Where can I get change? People will have to use what change they have or choose another option such as going to a lab, e-mailing articles or downloading to a disk (which are sold at Clicks.)

What alternatives do I have to paying for prints? You can e-mail or save articles to a disk. Disks are sold at the Clicks copy center in the library.

Will there be a charge for the card as well as the printing? There will be a $.55 charge for the card. The person will buy a $1 card and get $.45 of printing money. Value can then be added to the card.

Will people be able to use their IDs or credit cards? Not at this time, but possibly in the future.

How long are print jobs stored in the queue? One hour.

For more information contact Library Administration at 303-556-2805.

Auraria Library will be closed for Fourth of July Weekend, July 4-6. Regular hours resume on July 7: 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m.
