To accommodate the conversion needs of the college's new portal system - MetroConnect, there will be no access to Metro State e-mail from 5 p.m. on July 3 to 7 a.m. on July 7. MetroConnect will go live the morning of July 7. IT has requested that all college e-mail users move personal e-mail folders (those stored on your hard drive) to the mail.mscd.edu folders (those stored on the server) by July 3. If this isn't done, you will have to schedule an appointment with the Help Desk to search and retrieve any e-mail folders saved on your hard drive. "This will cause a significant delay in accessing your e-mail folders after July 7," said Flood. For easy directions on how to move your folders, click on: http://www.mscd.edu/metroconnect/helpdocs Macintosh users accessing Outlook Express can follow the same directions. Macintosh and PC users utilizing any other e-mail client will need to contact the Help Desk. "In addition to moving your personal folders to the mail.mscd.edu folders, users should take this opportunity to do a little spring cleaning of email folders. More Hispanics graduate from Metro State than any other four-year college or university in the state, according to a national publication. The May 5 issue of "Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education" magazine ranks Metro State 73rd in the country for the number of bachelor's degrees awarded to Hispanics, ahead of the University of Colorado at Boulder (77th) and Colorado State University (83rd). Metro State awarded 240 degrees, while CU conferred 233 and CSU 213. Rankings were based on 2000-2001 data. Summer enrollment is heading for an all-time high. As of Tuesday, four days before classes begin, there are 1,385 state-funded, full-year FTES (full-time equivalent students) registered for classes, an increase of 6.7 percent. Total headcount is 7,621, which is 6.9 percent higher than the same point last year. "This is the continuation of an enrollment surge we've been experiencing over the past eight semesters," said Director of Admissions Bill Hathaway-Clark. "It's directly related to the strong numbers of students we had last fall and spring, many of whom are choosing to take classes again this summer."
The Auraria Library is operating on a reduced schedule this week, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on the weekend. The library also will be closed Monday, May 26, for Memorial Day. The summer schedule takes effect Tuesday, May 27. Educators, family therapists, child-care providers, health-care practitioners, criminal-justice professionals and social-service providers are expected at the fourth annual "Kids' Brains: Healthy Connections for Our Future" conference at the Tivoli May 29-30. Hosted by Metro State's School of Professional Studies, the conference explores the importance in brain development for infants and young children. Keynote speakers are Alison Gopnik, an internationally recognized leader in the study of children's learning, and Robert Geffner, founder and president of the Family Violence and Sexual Assault Institute in San Diego. Dell Computers and Denver Recycles are co-sponsoring a computer recycling collection from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Invesco Field. Unwanted personal computer equipment from home will be accepted and either
donated to a local charity or recycled. (Office computers are for state
