New Microsoft and Dell discounts available at bookstore
June 9, 2004

The Auraria Campus Bookstore has announced two new discount programs: one for faculty, staff and students on Dell computer systems and the other for students on Microsoft Office software.

Starting immediately, students, faculty and staff can save approximately 5 percent off of Dell's regular pricing, depending upon the configuration and service options. Laptops and desktops that are loaded with memory as well as those with more bare-bones systems are available. Entry-level computers may not carry a discount unless a service option is purchased.

In addition, students can now purchase Microsoft Office student licenses for less than $100. Software piracy is illegal, and it's important that students have their own registered copy. Costs are:

MS Office 2003 Professional - $79
MS Office 2003 Standard - $69
MS Office v.X for Students and Teachers for the Macintosh - $75
MS Windows XP Professional Upgrade - $79

These are full working versions of the Microsoft Office software, and they will not expire over a period of time, however the student licenses are not refundable or upgradeable. The bookstore encourages students who want upgradeable software to purchase the boxed products the stores offers, as they are still considerably less than commercial retail versions.

Students can get the student licenses on the second level of the Auraria Campus bookstore inside the Tivoli Student Union. They must bring their student ID and complete the required license agreement at the time of purchase. There are no refunds for these licenses, so students should be sure of the type of computer they have and its operating system. Downgrade licenses may also be ordered.

For more information about these programs, please contact Charles Emmons, manager of Campus Computers, emmonsc@ahec.edu.
