Three Metro employees have been appointed to community or academic boards. Mayor John Hickenlooper appointed Joe Sandoval, chair of the Criminal Justice Department, to the Police Task Force and Carolyn Schaefer-Wollard, vice president for institutional advancement, to the Denver Workforce Development Board. Economics Professor Kishore Kulkarni has been named to a College Board test committee. Hickenlooper formed the Police Task Force to review the Denver Police Department's use-of-force policy and civilian oversight. "Police accountability is an important issue in a democratic country and civilian oversight of police has been one of my ongoing interests," said Sandoval, a former member of the Arvada Police Department. "Because of the significance of this issue to the entire body politic, participation in this task force is a high priority of my professional experience," Sandoval said. The Workforce Development Board sets policies and has a major role in workforce development issues for Denver. "I believe that a well-educated workforce is central to a healthy economy and vital city," Schaefer-Wollard said. "I feel honored to have been selected to serve on this board and hope that through my position at Metro State, I may enhance synergies and partnerships that will be of benefit to both enterprises." Kulkarni will serve on the College Board's CLEP Principles of Macro and Micro Economics Examination Test Development Committee. Test development committees help ensure the quality of CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) as an assessment tool. "This appointment reflects highly on Dr. Kulkarni's national and international reputation as a quality teacher and scholar and on the reputation of Metro State as a quality teaching institution," said John Cochran, interim dean of the School of Business.
