The following information was provided by AHEC.
How will this race impact the Auraria Campus? Beginning Wednesday August 27th, Denver officials will close the out-bound Auraria Parkway following the evening rush hour around 7:30 p.m. east of 7th Street to 11th Street. The in-bound Auraria Parkway will close Thursday morning, August 28th about 10 a.m., after the morning rush hour. Both will remain closed through Monday, September 1, and will reopen in time for the morning rush hour on Tuesday, September 2. Students, faculty and staff will be able to access 7th Street from the in-bound Auraria Parkway or from W. Colfax Ave. during this closure period. Parking lot R will be accessible from Speer Blvd. by using the jug handle turn on the Auraria Parkway. Campus parkers should be prepared to show campus ID and expect some delays and noise. Overflow parking at the Pepsi Center will not be available to the campus from Thursday through Monday. Campus parking lots will be available to students, faculty and staff during this time. The campus will allow limited Grand Prix parking on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (Labor Day - in the event of a rain delay). Non-campus parkers will be charged a higher special event rate. RTD said bus routes 1, 20 and SkyRide AF will detour around the Grand Prix site from 10 a.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. next Tuesday. What other activities will be going on besides the race over the Labor Day weekend? Many activities are planned in lower downtown over the Labor Day weekend. A preseason Bronco football game will kick off the weekend on Friday night at Invesco Field. The CSU/CU college football game at Invesco is scheduled for Saturday evening. The Festival of Mountain and Plain A Taste of Colorado kicks off for the 20th consecutive year Saturday through Monday in Civic Center Park. Support races with the Denver Grand Prix will include the Toyota Atlantic Championship and the Trans-Am Series, a muscle car competition. Other activities include the Rock-N-Roar concert Saturday night featuring the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, extreme sports demonstrations, a kid's fun zone and the Grand Prix Lifestyle Expo, which features the latest high-tech products and services, simulators, racecars and games.
