2. Allow extra time for Grand Prix congestion

As the Grand Prix quickly approaches, last-minute preparations are expected to snarl traffic, causing increased congestion. "The best thing to do is to allow yourself extra time," advises Mark Gallagher, AHEC director of parking.

The Centrix Financial Grand Prix of Denver, starts this Friday and ends with the championship races on Sunday.

Part of the 1.65-mile course will run on Auraria Parkway, closing the street between 7th and 12th streets.

Out-bound Auraria Parkway will close at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, although access to parking Lot R will still be provided. In-bound Auraria Parkway will close after 10:30 a.m. Thursday, with access to 7th Street still available. Auraria Parkway will remain closed through the weekend and reopen on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1. The campus will be closed for the holiday.

Over the weekend, campus parking will be available to race fans. Lots R, H and A will be reserved for students, faculty and staff with campus identification.

In addition to the auto race, several other popular events are expected to add to the traffic this weekend. At 5:45 p.m. Saturday, CU faces CSU at Invesco Field at Mile High. Thousands are expected to attend the Taste of Colorado at Civic Center Park Friday through Sunday.
