Emilia Paul, Metro's student judicial officer as of Feb. 1, is charged with enforcing the college's student code of conduct. Formerly the dean of student services for Front Range Community College, Paul says she is glad to be back on the Auraria Campus, having served on the faculty and administration of the Community College of Denver from 1995 through 2001. "You need great support and resources to do this job," Paul said. She credits Metro and the entire Auraria Campus with having strong student support services. According to Paul, one of her main goals will be to raise awareness of the existence of the student code of conduct, specifically to inform students of the consequences associated with misconduct. Karen Raforth, interim vice president of student services, said Paul was selected from many great candidates because she had already served as a student judicial officer during her tenure at FRCC. "Emilia has an incredible breadth of expertise," said Raforth, citing Paul's experience in enrollment, advising, mediation and diversity. Raforth also credited Paul's seven years as an adjunct professor in English. "She will be a good person for faculty to consult with on classroom management, conflict resolution and discipline issues because she has been in the classroom and knows the situation there." Paul says she learns
a lot in her role as judicial officer. "No case is ever the same,
human behavior is fascinating," she said.
