Denver mayor John Hickenlooper will speak at the Tivoli Revitalization Ceremony 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, outside on the east side of the building. The 137-year-old building has received only minor work over the past 20 years, making it necessary for repair and renovation. The restoration, funded by a 2000 student bond fee, includes repairing the exterior and upgrading mechanical, electrical and fire alarm systems. Most notable of all, the outside of the Tivoli will no longer be white. The paint will be removed and repairs made to the brick, so that the building returns to its natural red brick exterior. Windows will be repaired or replaced to improve energy efficiency while maintaining the extensive historic details. Several new windows will also be installed in the southwest corner of the third floor. The project includes the addition and upgrading of exterior building lighting with the goal to increase nighttime pedestrian safety and to enhance the exterior building façade. In addition, the existing low sloped-roofs are leaking and causing damage to interior spaces and will be replaced in most areas. The fire alarm upgrade includes installation of an intelligent addressable system throughout the building and interfacing the system with the campus-wide Security and Fire Alarm System and the Building Automation System. The final component of the revitalization involves mechanical system upgrades. The existing heat pump system will be replaced to increase energy efficiency and to reduce operating expenses. The electrical system will also be upgraded to accommodate the mechanical system replacement. Work is expected to be completed in 2005. |
