40th anniversary plans on schedule
June 22, 2005

The weather is heating up and so is the work of Metro State's 40th Anniversary Planning Committee. So far, the signature events planned are:

  • A Night of Legends and Champions, Brian Wilson in Concert, Aug. 26 at the Universal Lending Pavilion, is the kick-off to the anniversary year. All the concert's proceeds benefit the Metro State Athletics Scholarship Fund, so whether you want to splurge on $250 tickets that include a cocktail reception and premium seating or simply want to purchase the lowest-price tickets, Metro State student-athletes will be the winners. To purchase VIP tickets, contact Dave Alden, athletics marketing director, 303-556-8141, aldend@mscd.edu. For all other tickets contact Ticketmaster: 303-830-TIXS or www.ticketmaster.com
  • Fall Convocation and Investiture of Stephen Jordan will be held early in the fall semester. President Jordan hopes to have it on a day when as many faculty as possible would be able to attend. The event will be held in the morning and will be catered. The ceremony will also include honoring the 2004-05 Distinguished Faculty and Staff and Golden Key awardees.
  • The Metro Effect: Metro State Alumni Exhibition is Sept. 8-Oct. 29 at the Center for Visual Art. All faculty and staff will be invited to the opening reception on Sept. 15.
  • The Plain and Fancy Ball, March 18, 2006. Save the date now for a retro version of what was once Metro State's gala fund-raising event. The ball is being planned by the Metro State Alumni Association to benefit alumni programs and scholarships.

Also in the works are a 40th Anniversary Web site (the soft launch is scheduled for July 15), a commemorative issue of Metro Magazine, "The Forty Faces of Metro State; memorabilia and more.
