Two new technologies now available through MetroConnect should make professors' jobs a little easier from now on. Beginning this semester, faculty can use E -Rosters to print their class rosters whenever they want and E-Grades to assign grades electronically.

Staff from the Office of the Registrar and Information Technology developed these features with and for faculty, according to Registrar Tom Gray.

E-Rosters
Using E-Rosters, professors can obtain class rosters whenever they wish and as often as they need, rather than having to rely on rosters printed five to seven days before their classes begin.

To help ease the transition, the college will still distribute printed class rosters this fall semester. However, beginning with Spring 2005 semester, rosters will be available only through MetroConnect.

"We do hope faculty will use E-Rosters this semester and become comfortable with the technology," said Gray. "That way they will be ready when the college switches over to only E-Rosters next spring."

To use the E-roster feature follow these steps:

• Log on to MetroConnect at http://metroconnect.mscd.edu
• Click Registration/Banner Web tab
• Click ACCESSYOUR BANNER WEB SERVICES
• Click Faculty & Advisors Menu
• Click Term Selection
• Click the Term you wish to access and click the Submit button
• Click Summary Class List
• Click the Class you wish to print and click the Submit button
• Click Print icon on the top menu bar
• Click CRN Selection at the bottom of the page to select another class
• Repeat for each of your classes throughout the semester, whenever you want an updated class roster

There also are several advanced E-Roster features:

• Click the name of a student to access the student's address and phone number
• Click the title of the course to view a list of all sections with the same title for the semester
• On the Faculty & Advisors Menu click Detail Class List for class enrollment/wait list enrollment and detailed academic information for each student in your class

E-Grades
Also beginning this semester, faculty will submit grades electronically through MetroConnect.

"E-Grades will be convenient," says Gray, "because professors will be able to submit grades from their office, home or from wherever they can access MetroConnect." He adds that faculty who teach a module or part-of-term class will be able to submit their grades when the class is finished. "This will be especially helpful for summer semester and Winterim classes."
