Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) at Campus Recreation at Auraria has begun
a new program to help facilitate service-learning opportunities that focus
on careers in outdoor and educational fields. Currently, OAC has 13 outdoor
agencies with which it has established relationships, such as the James
P. Beckwourth Mountain Club Outdoor Education Center, REI, the U.S. Forest
Service and Foresight Ski Guides. According to OAC Director Bryan Ferguson,
the center hopes to become a clearinghouse for more than 30 agencies seeking
volunteers.
Students from Metro State, UCD and CCD as well as faculty and staff looking for outdoor volunteer opportunities can participate. Volunteers are needed for everything from ski guiding the visual handicapped to becoming a Peak Steward to event planning. To learn more go
