Athletics racks up thousands for scholarships
May 4, 2005

When Ray Kieft leaves his post as president of Metro State, he'll be sailing off in style, having won an Alaskan cruise at the fifth annual Roadrunner Scholarship Dinner and Auction on April 13.

Held at Maggiano's Little Italy in downtown Denver, the event drew 180 people and raised $27,000 for athletic scholarships. Master of ceremonies, radio talk show host and former Metro State baseball coach Irv Brown presided over the sold-out evening that featured Jerry Schemmel, the voice of the Denver Nuggets, as the celebrity speaker.

Athletics next big fundraiser is A Night of Legends and Champions, Brian Wilson in concert Aug. 26. The concert, which will benefit the Athletics Scholarship Fund, is also the kickoff event for Metro State's 40th anniversary.

Wilson is the legendary composer and performer who was a member of the Beach Boys. The 7:30 p.m. concert will be held at the Universal Lending Pavilion, 1700 7th St., on the grounds of the Denver Pepsi Center.

Watch @Metro for more information about the concert as it becomes available.
