Students in aerospace science Professor Jeff Price's Aviation Security class took part in an emergency management exercise last week that gave them a taste of how difficult it is to operate in an emergency situation. The exercise replicated
an aircraft hijacking. The students, who didn't know what would happen
ahead of time, divided into groups and played the roles of an airport
operations team, the Denver Police Department, the FBI, the flight crew
on board the hijacked airplane and a hijacker. "It really gave
them an idea of how difficult incident management really is," Price
said. "In aviation, emergencies are a fact of life. Life and property
are constantly at stake. Our goal is to provide training so that when
the inevitable emergency does take place, they'll apply their training
and make the appropriate decisions."
