Nomination deadlines approach

The nomination deadlines are drawing near for the Outstanding Women and Distinguished Service awards

Outstanding Women Awards
The deadline for nominations for the 2005 Outstanding Women Awards is April 1. Awards are given in the following categories: alumnae, current students, faculty members, classified staff and administrators.

Nomination letters must include:

  • background information on the nominee
  • evidence of her leadership in enhancing women’s education
  • year of graduation (for alumna or current student category)
  • details of specific achievements
  • name, address and phone number of nominator

Send nominations to the Institute for Women’s Studies and Services, Campus Box 36.

The awards program helps support the Pamela McIntye-Marcum Scholarship Fund at Metro. The winners will be announced at the May 5 Awards Reception.

Distinguished Service Awards
The deadline for nominations for Distinguished Service Awards is 3:30 p.m. on April 4. Distinguished Service Awards are given to college classified staff, administrators and faculty who have worked at Metro for at least 10 years on a full-time basis and whose accomplishments may include the following:

  • contribution to students, faculty or staff
  • contribution to department, school, administrative units or college
  • innovative curriculum, program or management development, special contributions
  • professional achievements, awards, recognition
  • other (e.g., work with various campus groups, state/national groups, official appointment on any level, community involvement as a representative of Metro)

Distinguished service is defined as continuous service to Metropolitan State College characterized by a high standard of quality, longevity and significance. The emphasis is on outstanding and unusual contributions that are clearly above and beyond the norm. Candidates may nominate themselves or be nominated by others. Those who are nominating someone else must contact the nominee to ensure that all information is correct and to obtain the signature of the nominee on the nomination form. Nominations merely consisting of resumes are unacceptable. The nomination must be in the form of a narrative statement, double-spaced on plain white paper, not to exceed four pages. Copies of the nomination form are available from the Faculty Senate Office.

The recipients of the Distinguished Service Award receive a monetary award, which will be paid through payroll and is subject to federal and state withholdings.
