Counseling Center earns reaccreditation
March 23, 2005

Metro's Counseling Center has been reaccredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS). In a letter to the center, the vice chair of University and College Board of Accreditation at IACS wrote, "Your IACS accreditation attests to the high quality of your services."

Services at the center include short-term individual counseling for mental health and personal concerns (available free of charge to Metro students and as a one-session consultation/referral for Metro faculty and staff); group counseling; seminars; workshops; crisis intervention assistance; psychiatric evaluations for medications; consultation to Metro faculty and staff about mental health, diversity and organizational development issues; and a peer education program to assist high-risk students in making a successful transition to college.

Gail Bruce-Sanford, director of the counseling center, said, "The accreditation by IACS assures our campus two things: (1) that a full range of counseling services is being provided; and (2) that our center is consistent with national standards in providing these services."
