Two Metro State employees have been recognized by the City and County of Denver's Commission for People with Disabilities for their work with Auraria students.

Laverne Donelson, associate director of Metro's Access Center, and Julie Rummel Mancuso, director of Campus Recreation's Physically Challenged Program, were chosen to receive two of the 14 awards annually given by the Commission.

Donelson received the 2004 Assistive Technology Award for her eight years of work at the recently merged Access Center for Disability Accommodations and Adaptive Technology, which serves Metro, CCD and UCD.

"I felt so honored," Donelson said, "to be recognized by Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. It was wonderful to be appreciated for what's being done here at Metro State."

Rummel Mancusco received the 2004 Education Award. She is the director of the Physically Challenged Program and, until this year, managed the campus Disability Awareness Day.

The awards ceremony was held Oct. 1 at the Colorado Convention Center.
