Men's basketball Head Coach Mike Dunlap has added another feather to the multitude already in his cap: He is one of three collegiate coaches to be chosen to serve as court coaches at the 2005 USA Basketball Men's U21 National Team Trials. The trials will feature approximately 25 of the nation's top 21-year-old and younger players and will be used to select finalists for the 2005 USA Basketball U21 World Championship Team. The trials court coaching staffDunlap, along with Jeremy Cox of the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith and Paul Patterson of Taylor University (Ind.)is responsible for conducting drills, coaching scrimmages and working with players who will vie for spots on the World Championship Team at the July 21-23 trials in Dallas. Dunlap, Cox and Patterson will assist the 2005 USA U21 National Team coaching staff (Phil Martelli, Saint Joseph's University; Dennis Felton, University of Georgia; and James 'Bruiser' Flint, Drexel University). "It's a privilege. It can be cliché, but it really is an absolute privilege," Dunlap says. "If you get that opportunity, you jump at it. You can give back and also it will be enjoyable to be around that caliber athlete and to see those guys compete for that privilege of being among the select few who will represent the country." The eventual 12-member USA team will travel to Argentina for the world championship, to be held Aug. 5-14 in Cordoba and Mar del Plata. Teams from twelve countries will compete in the world championship.
