Summer enrollment dips slightly
June 15, 2005

A decrease in transfer students for the summer semester has led to a slight decline of 0.6% (48 fewer students overall) in student headcount over last summer’s census date enrollment figures.

According to Admissions Director Bill Hathaway-Clark, the number of continuing students remained steady. “They are the most critical cohort, as a fluctuation in that large group really affects enrollment—positively or negatively—more than any other group,” he said.

However, 66 fewer transfers enrolled this summer semester than last summer, even though the number of acceptances offered to transfer students was 3% greater than last year. “We are researching why those accepted students chose not to enroll for summer to learn if it was due to personal circumstances or if there was something we as an institution could have done differently,’’ Hathaway-Clark said.

In addition, this summer’s total of state-funded full-year FTES is 1,329—a 1.7% drop from than last year.

The percentage of ethnic minorities jumped slightly to 24.9%. While female students are still the majority at 60.2%, the number attending this semester dropped by 1.2% over last summer. Denver and Arapahoe Counties continue to provide the largest percentage of students at 29.6% and 21.3% respectively.

Students taking only on-line courses (including hybrid courses that combine classroom and online instruction) increased by 12.4%

The only classifications showing a decrease are Sophomore with 4%, Licensure Only with 4.4% and Non-Degree Seeking Students with 13.8%. Juniors increased by 1.2% and Seniors increased by 2.7%. Freshmen remained basically the same with 1,246 students.
