Blackwell to speak on Chicana feminism
The campus community is invited to hear activist scholar Maylei Blackwell speak on
"Hijas de Cuauhtémoc, Oral History, and Chicana Feminist Praxis" at 10 a.m. on March 17 in TIV 320A.

Blackwell is an assistant professor in the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her current research and teaching examines how racial and sexual differences shape the challenges and possibilities of transnational organizing in the Americas by focusing on how women of color in the U.S. and indigenous women in Mexico organize to resist the conditions created by globalization.

Blackwell's lecture is sponsored by Metro's Department of Chicano/a Studies and two student groups: Conscious Journey and Los Herederos of Change and Esperanza.

The discussion will focus on the latest developments in aviation policy at the national level, including: flight training restrictions for non-U.S. citizens, air traffic controller staffing needs, cargo security and air carrier taxes.

Refreshments will be provided by the Student Travel Program, which sponsored the students' attendance at the conference.
