Metro State's quest for its third NCAA Division II national men's basketball championship continues Wednesday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. (MST). The Roadrunners (29-3) will face the Virginia Union Panthers (27-4) of Richmond, Va. in the quarterfinals of the Elite Eight at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. The Roadrunners are ranked No. 2 nationally in the final poll of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC); the Panthers are ranked No. 6. The game is the first time these teams have met and promises to be a nail-biter as both rank among the top five in the nation in scoring margin: Metro State is fifth at +15.9 and Virginia Union is second at +17.4. The game will be audiocast live on www.GoMetroState.com. If the Roadrunners win tonight, they will advance to the semifinals tomorrow, in which they will play the winner of today's earlier matchup between the Findlay Oilers (30-3) of Findlay, Ohio and the Lynn Fighting Knights (28-5) of Boca Raton, Fla. Findlay is ranked No. 1 and Lynn is ranked No. 12 by the NABC. This semifinal game will be this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised on Comcast channel 5, not on Altitude as previously reported. If you are not a Comcast customer, you can view the game on the following channels, which will also broadcast a one-on-one interview with Coach Mike Dunlap before the game.
These channels will also broadcast the other semifinal game (between the winners of Cal Poly-Pomona vs. Tarleton State and Mount Olive vs. Bryant) at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Comcast will not air this 5 p.m. semifinal game. If the Roadrunners advance beyond the semifinals to play for the national title, the campus community is invited to a party to watch the nationally televised game on CBS at Brauns, 11 a.m., Saturday, March 26. |
