Two uniquely creative and educational events are planned over the next week to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

“Chicano Messengers of Spoken Word” will be held this Thursday at 1 p.m. Through spoken poetry about Chicano and Native American experiences, poets Paul S. Flores, Amalia Ortiz and Marc David Pinate will use their craft to clarify misconceptions about what they consider a misunderstood and often stereotyped culture. Faculty are invited to bring their classes to this event.

On Thursday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m., Sergio Arau and Yareli Arizmendi, creators of the movie “A Day Without a Mexican,” will show clips from their film and lead a discussion of the issues currently faced by Mexicans in America.
