Two uniquely creative and educational events are planned over the next week to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. “Chicano Messengers of Spoken Word” will be held this Thursday at 1 p.m. Through spoken poetry about Chicano and Native American experiences, poets Paul S. Flores, Amalia Ortiz and Marc David Pinate will use their craft to clarify misconceptions about what they consider a misunderstood and often stereotyped culture. Faculty are invited to bring their classes to this event. On Thursday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m., Sergio Arau and Yareli Arizmendi, creators of the movie “A Day Without a Mexican,” will show clips from their film and lead a discussion of the issues currently faced by Mexicans in America. Sponsored by Metro Student Activities and UCD Student Life, both events will be held in the Tivoli Turnhalle and are free and open to the community.
