than 1,400 students to graduate
On Sunday, May 15, more than 1,400 students are expected to receive
their degrees during Metro's spring commencement ceremony at the Colorado
Convention Center. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m. and U.S. Senator Ken
Salazar is the featured speaker.

Accreditation
process underway for teacher education
In fall of 2006,
Metro's Teacher Education Department will face an accreditation site
visit from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education
(NCATE). And, because the process for accreditation is a lengthy, involved
one, faculty member and accreditation coordinator Bill Wiener is starting
to prepare now.

Getting
physical: ATEP program earns accreditation
Metro's Athletic
Training Education Program (ATEP) has received its accreditation, making
it the only accredited athletic training program in the Denver metropolitan
area. The accreditation, by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied
Health Education Programs, makes it possible for program graduates to
sit for the National Athletic Trainers' Association certification examination,
a credential necessary to practice in the field.

pieces with faculty work is the rationale behind the Center for Visual
Art exhibits, "Back to Back: Metro State BFA Honors Thesis and
Metro State Art Faculty." The exhibitions run May 5-21 (BFA honors)

Betty
Jean Brewer, wife of former Metro president, dies
Betty Jean Brewer,
72, the wife of Thomas Brewer, president of Metro from 1988 to 1993,
died on April 11 after a lengthy battle with emphysema. She is survived
by her husband of almost 54 years; a daughter, Diane Smith, of Austin,
Texas; a son, Thomas Jr., of Indianapolis; and four grandchildren. The
Brewers have lived in Austin since 1993.

to meet today; agenda includes budget, tenure, new minors
Metro's Board of
Trustees is set to meet this morning, Wednesday, May 4, in TIV 320.
At 8 a.m. the board will have an informal session with students, after
which the trustees will convene into executive session. The open-session
portion of the meeting will begin at approximately 9:45 a.m.
