3. Parker to conduct analysis of faculty salary equity and parity

Interim President Ray Kieft has announced that Virginia Parker, recently retired Metro professor and chair of the Accounting Department, will conduct an analysis of faculty salary equity and parity.

Parker will be assisted by an advisory committee comprising faculty representatives of each school and the Faculty Senate. The representatives from the schools are: Catherine Curran (Speech Communication), Rudy Garcia (Modern Languages), Ellen Susman (Psychology), Melanie Reid (Special Education), Nancy Shanks (Health Professions), Beth Frederick (Management) and Debbie Gilliard (Management). The representatives from the Faculty Senate have not yet been named.

Faculty members should contact their respective school representatives with information they wish to bring to the committee's attention.

4. Tsunami victims: Campus relief efforts

Even before students arrive for the spring semester, several efforts are under way to help the victims of the Dec. 26 tsunami.

Closest to home is the chance to help one of Auraria's own. CCD student Petrus Tobing is here from Indonesia on refugee status. He has lost his father, grandfather, cousin and uncle—nearly his entire family. A surviving seven-year-old cousin, Hamier, is alone and traumatized. Tobing desperately wants to return home and find his young cousin but does not have the funds to do so.

7. E-mail quarantine system improves

Starting this semester, "quarantine" e-mails sent through MetroConnect now offer new options for managing e-mail identified as spam, which often fills up e-mail boxes and slows down server efficiency. They also look different from the old quarantine messages.

8. Metro professor displays 'Faces of Egypt'

"Faces of Egypt" is an exhibit of 30 photographs taken by Jim Aubrey, professor of English. Aubrey traveled to Egypt last summer under a Fulbright obtained by retired Professor Ali Thobani in which five Metro State faculty and five teachers from Thornton and Overland High Schools traveled and studied in Egypt. In the exhibit, each photo is accompanied by text that places it in context of knowledge Aubrey gained while in Egypt. The photos will be shown at Overland High School in January and Thornton High School in February.
