2. Spring enrollment up slightly

Preliminary enrollment figures as of Tuesday, Jan. 18, show a total headcount of state-funded and cash-funded students of 19,754, which is a 2.4 percent increase in total headcount over last spring semester's first day of classes.

The total of state-funded full-year FTES is 2.6 percent higher than the same time point last year

"This increase demonstrates yet another semester of steady enrollment growth for the college," said Admissions Director Bill Hathaway Clark, "and is a real tribute to the faculty and campus community who provide an excellent education and quality services at an affordable price. As the cost of higher education increases throughout the state, I believe that Metro will become an even more attractive educational option for Denver-area students."

4. Legislative update: An important year for Metro

Perhaps more so than any previous year, 2005 is shaping up to be a make-it-or-break-it year for higher education in Colorado. The 65th General Assembly convened on Jan. 12 with a sea change in leadership and not just a full plate, but one overflowing with the state's well-publicized fiscal problems related to the "Taxpayers' Bill of Rights" (TABOR) and Amendment 23 (K-12 funding).

6. Undefeated, Roadrunners voted No. 1

Metro's 14-0 men's basketball team has been voted No.1 in the nation by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. They are the only undefeated team left in the NCAA Division II.

Next up for the Roadrunners are 8 p.m. away games at Colorado Christian on Friday, Jan. 21 and at Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, Jan. 22.

The 12-3 women's team also takes on Colorado Christian and Mines this weekend, at 6 p.m. each night.

9. Tennis, anyone? Campus improvements continue

Does your serve need work? Then visit the new campus tennis courts—decked out in Metro blue and red—adjacent to Lot R in the northeast corner of the playing fields. The old courts at Ninth Street and Auraria Parkway were demolished to make way for a five-level, 800-space parking garage scheduled to open in July 2005.
