2. Group to address computer lab issues

Information Technology has formed the Academic Computing Lab Advisory Group to improve communication between the academic departments and IT, with the goal of better service for students while meeting departmental needs.

3. Do you know Visiting Psychology Professor Richard M. Swanson?


At the request of the City of Gainesville (Fla.) and the Gainesville Police Department, Richard M. Swanson, then a forensic psychologist at the University of Florida and attorney, began studying convenience store crimes to shed light on a rash of robberies in the mid- '80s.

4. Friends of Auraria Library offer book bargains

Hardback books are only $2 and paperbacks and records just $1 at the upcoming Friends of the Auraria Library semi-annual book sale. The sale runs Oct. 4 and 5, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Oct. 6, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. A preview sale for members only is Oct. 2.

6. Retired prof offers scholarship

A new scholarship for Metro students has been established by the McElhiney Family to honor their adopted South Korean grandson, Maxwell Jee Min McElhiney, "Max." (Annette McElhiney is a retired professor of English and women's studies from Metro.)

7. Know exceptional students? Nominate them for USA Today award

USA Today is seeking nominations for its First, Second and Third All-USA College Academic Teams. Sixty students will be chosen and featured in a two-page spread in USA Today in February 2005. The 20 members of the First Team each receive a $2,500 cash award.

Any full-time undergraduate of at least sophomore standing at a four-year institution in the United States is eligible. U.S. citizenship is not required.

8. Noisemakers wanted!

Metro State Roadrunner fans are invited to the taping of the Rocky Mountain Athletic conference's (RMAC) inaugural sports roundup program that will be televised on the new Altitude cable television station. The taping is 9-10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, across Auraria Parkway at Braun's. Join Rowdy the mascot and other Roadrunner fans and make some noise in support of Metro State's teams. Refreshments will be served. The show will air Oct. 4 on Direct TV's Channel 410.
