2. Metro's VUB to reach out to homeless vets

The Veteran's Upward Bound (VUB) program at Metro State will participate in the 14th Annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down Nov. 4, a day when veterans' agencies and organizations throughout Denver come together to provide services to homeless veterans.

3. Women's soccer ranked No. 2 in nation


Metro's women's soccer team, ranked No. 2 in Division II by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in its NSCAA/Adidas national poll, has ended the regular season at 16-0-1 (14-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference).

4. Anxiety and Desire at CVA

Anxiety and Desire: A Photographic Map of the Psyche is showing through Jan. 15, 2005 at Metro State's Center for Visual Art.

Curated by Clare Cornell, assistant professor of digital imaging, the exhibit features images that convey longing, wish and want by noted photographers Leta Evaskus, Cinthea Fiss, Robert Flynt, Mary Beth Heffernan, Mark Kessell, Clarissa Sligh and Donna Tracy.

On Thursday, Dec. 9, Cornell will present a free gallery talk at 7 p.m.

The Center, located at 1734 Wazee St., is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, and noon-5 p.m. on Saturday. For more information call 303-294-5207 or go to http://www.mscd.edu/news/cva/.

5. Red, Hot & Cole!

Metro's Communication Arts and Sciences and Music departments are teaming up to present "Red, Hot & Cole," featuring the music of Cole Porter, the great American songwriter whose songs have become international standards.

The two-act revue runs Nov. 11-13 and 18-20 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 21 at 2:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre at the King Center.

Metro State students with a valid ID may attend free; adult tickets are $15 and tickets for other students and seniors are $8. Reservations are encouraged. Please call 303-556-2296.

6. Discounted tickets available for 'Auraria Day' at the Nuggets

Dec. 6 is the first official "Auraria Day" at the Denver Nuggets, and discounted tickets are available to the game against the Orlando Magic.

Students in the Marketing Department's Sports Marketing Class will be selling the tickets ranging from $16 to $25 at the flagpole on Nov. 4, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Metro students by creating scholarships in the Marketing Department. Cash and checks will be accepted.

The first 10,000 people to the flagpole rally will receive a free Nuggets beach towel.

7. Service learning in the great outdoors

The Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) at Campus Recreation at Auraria has begun a new program to help facilitate service-learning opportunities that focus on careers in outdoor and educational fields.

8. Reminder: BOT meeting Nov. 10 in ADM 570

The November meeting of the Board of Trustees will not be held today, but is instead scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 10, in ADM 570.

9. Fall Break: No classes Thanksgiving week

This summer, Interim President Ray Kieft announced that Metro State will begin observing a fall semester break during the week of Thanksgiving. There will be no classes Nov. 22-27, but the college will remain open, except on the Thanksgiving holiday, Nov. 25. Administrative and classified staff may take annual leave as long as their supervisors approve and the office remains open and staffed.

UCD has also chosen to observe a fall break during the week of Thanksgiving, however, CCD will not. Therefore, Metro students who are enrolled in CCD classes are required to attend their CCD classes.
