2. Kieft addresses the BOT on accreditation, grants

At the Dec. 1 meeting of the Board of Trustees, Interim President Ray Kieft announced that the college is scheduled for an accreditation review by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 2006-07.

3. E-Grades posting starts Monday


The posting of E-Grades through MetroConnect starts Monday, Dec. 13, with all grades to be submitted no later than noon, Thursday, Dec. 23.

Faculty members who were unable to attend last week's demonstrations on using E-Grades are encouraged to call Registrar Tom Gray, 303-556-3996, and he will set up an on-the-spot training session.

Late Grades must be submitted in person to the Registrar's Office, CN 105, and will not be uploaded until Jan. 3, 2005.

4. Winter classes take the heat off Spring term

Students who take Winterim classes can alleviate some of the pressure from their Spring schedule or accrue an extra three credits.

"It gives students the opportunity to lighten their load for Spring," says Metro State Registrar Tom Gray, "and it does the same thing for faculty."

5. Ranks of Metro alumni to grow to 55,000

On Sunday, Dec. 19, nearly 970 Metro students will receive their diplomas, swelling to 55,000 the number of Metro State graduates. The Fall Commencement ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at the Colorado Convention Center. University of Denver Chancellor Daniel Ritchie is the commencement speaker.

Watch for several compelling and poignant student stories, including that of the President's Award winner, in the Dec. 15 edition of This Week @Metro.

6. Dec. 13 is first deadline for diversity initiative funding

Monday is the deadline to apply for funding of department-sponsored diversity activities scheduled for January and February of 2005.

8. Metro first to use new air traffic control software

Metro's Aviation and Aerospace Science Department continues to provide students with the very latest information and technology in its courses. The most recent example is new sophisticated air traffic control training software from Raytheon, which is being used by students in the "Fundamentals of Air Traffic Control" course.

9. CVA offers free presentation about 'Anxiety and Desire'

Clare Cornell, assistant professor of digital imaging and guest curator, will give a talk and slide presentation about the Center for Visual Art's current exhibition, "Anxiety and Desire: A Photographic Map of the Psyche," Thursday, at 7 p.m. at the Center. The talk is free and open to the public.

"Anxiety and Desire" looks closely at photographic representations of longing, wish and want, with the underlying theme that desire, when hidden or unattainable, can cause anxiety.

10. Library to implement changes in Course Reserve system

The Auraria library will implement changes to its Course Reserve system in the spring semester, beginning in January 2005. The changes are designed to streamline students' access to information.
