Classified? Check your annual leave accrual
June 8, 2005

It's that time of year. With the impending new fiscal year, classified employees need to check their annual leave balances and make sure that they are not over the allowed accrued amount.

Employees can check their leave record on MetroConnect: Click on the Registration/Banner Web tab, then Access Your Banner Web Services. Go to the Employee Services Menu.

If you have annual leave that will be forfeited if not used before July 1, Human Resources asks that you consider donating it to the college's Annual Leave Sharing Program. Not only will you help fellow employees who face serious medical situations, but you are then eligible to use the program yourself if the need ever arises. Human Resources Director Tamy Calahan says that while the sharing program is not often used, it certainly is valuable to have available when it's needed.

State personnel rules also dictate the amount of sick leave employees can accrue based on their hire date. On July 1, the Payroll Office converts over-accrued sick leave up to 80 hours to annual leave on a 5:1 ratio (five hours of sick leave converts to one hour of annual leave).

Errors regarding leave balances should be forwarded to Chuc Hua of Payroll Services, huann@mscd.edu.
