Got Mac at home?
January 26, 2005

If your computer at home is a Macintosh and you want to get your e-mail through MetroConnect using Metro State's new e-mail service, you may need a different Internet browser.

The new e-mail service, which went live Dec. 30, has specific browser requirements. Home Mac users need to use the following Internet browsers to get your e-mail:

Macintosh - OS 9
Internet Explorer 5.1.7
Netscape 7.02

Macintosh - OS X v. 10.3
Netscape 7.1
Mozilla 1.6
Safari 1.1

Though Firefox, another Internet browser, works too, explains Ben Zastrocky, director of web services and development, it is not a certified-and-supported product relative to the new e-mail client.

On campus, only about 10 percent of Metro's computers are Macs and those have all been equipped with a fix to address any e-mail/browser conflicts. Eventually, all campus Macs will be outfitted with Netscape browsers.

Pop goes your e-mail!
Is your e-mail getting blocked? Then you might have a pop-up blocker gumming up the works. To combat this problem, you must "tell" your pop-up blocker to accept mscd.edu as a safe site. To get specific instructions, visit www.mscd.edu/metroconnect/helpdocs.

Look out Outlook!
Do you use the full version of Outlook 2003 to receive and send e-mail? Some users have discovered this glitch when sending html messages: Text replies from Metro's new Internet client may or may not display. Outlook Express and Entourage do not have this problem. IT is hoping to get a fix from Microsoft shortly.
