Rocky Mountain PBS is now in production of a two-hour, two-part original documentary about the history of Latinos in Colorado. The series, "La Raza de Colorado" (The Race of Colorado), features the work and commentary of many prominent Latinos, including Metro's own Luis Torres, associate professor of Chicana/o studies, and Antonio Esquibel, professor emeritus of Spanish and Chicana/o studies. Host an advance
screening of "La Raza de Colorado" Hosting organizations would need to provide a venue, seating and refreshments or food for attendees, while Rocky Mountain PBS would provide projection and sound equipment, the documentary "preview" video, and staffers to set up and operate the equipment, answer questions and discuss the production and Rocky Mountain PBS. If you are interested in hosting a preview screening of the documentary, contact Randy Blauvelt at Rocky Mountain PBS at (303) 620-5695 or randy_blauvelt@krma.pbs.org. The documentary will air on television in two separate one-hour time slots, the first in late June or early July 2005, and the second in September 2005. The first episode focuses on Colorado Latino history from the 1500s to 1940 and is entitled, "La Historia," while the second examines the Chicano movement of the 1960s and '70s"El Movimiento." "This, simply put, is not your traditional historical documentary," explains Rocky Mountain PBS producer Lisa Olken. "It's not a typical Anglo whitewashed view of Mexican, Latino or Hispanic history and culture. It's their history as told through the people who lived ittheir experiences, their remembrances and their analysis of the people, trends and events that shaped the Latino community in Colorado." |
