The rites of spring come to campus today and tomorrow, April 20-21, as Student Activities presents Spring Fling. The event, which will go from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days, includes food, games, arts and crafts, live music and dancers, and displays and booths from various commercial vendors and student organizations. "This is a chance for the campus to celebrate the end of the school year, before the end-of-semester wind-down," said Brooke Dilling, associate director of Student Activities. "It's also a chance for student organizations to do a little fundraising and recruiting for next year." Dilling says that this year's Fling promises to be bigger than in previous years. Highlights include a drunk-driving simulator in which test drivers feel what it's like to drive while drunk. The simulator, as well as an actual vehicle that has been smashed by a drunk driver, are being brought to campus by the Center for Addiction Studies in the Human Services Department and Alpha Delta Omega (the student honor society for human services), which applied for and received a grant from State Farm Insurance to bring the simulator to campus. Several commercial vendors will be on campus as well, including Vespa, which will offer test drives. For more information contact Student Activities at 303-556-2595. |
