Tennis, anyone? Campus improvements continue
January 19, 2005

Does your serve need work? Then visit the new campus tennis courts—decked out in Metro blue and red—adjacent to Lot R in the northeast corner of the playing fields. The old courts at Ninth Street and Auraria Parkway were demolished to make way for a five-level, 800-space parking garage scheduled to open in July 2005.

Other campus improvements include a newly opened dedicated right-turn lane from Seventh Street onto Auraria Parkway, a change that should alleviate evening traffic congestion in the vicinity. Also, the elevator in the Science Building has been rebuilt and will operate more reliably.

The $25 million Tivoli renovation continues apace, reports Dean Wolf, AHEC executive vice president for administration. With about 15 months left on the project, workers have removed exterior paint, are installing windows and are finishing tuck pointing to repair brick work. A new entrance at Larimer and 10th Street will open in seven months and new environmental and safety systems will be installed throughout the building.

"The Tivoli is within budget and on schedule," Wolf says. "The goal of the project is to restore the exterior of the building and put in central systems that will have a longer life and be more cost effective to operate."
