April Pool's Day water safety event to be held on campus
April 27, 2005

What's the best way to cool off on a hot summer day? Swimming, of course! Kids love to swim—but pools can also be dangerous. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children under five and an average of nine people per day drowned in 2000 in the United States.

To educate families and children about ways to stay safe during the summer swim season, the Roadrunner Aquatic Club will host April Pool's Day on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Physical Education building pool. The event at Metro is part of a national annual educational initiative undertaken by USA Swimming, the national governing body for the sport of swimming.

The goals of the day are to generate awareness of the importance of water safety, distinguish swimming as the No. 1 means to prevent drowning, introduce children to the benefits of swimming as a life-long sport and help children have fun in the water.
