Metro ups weekend offerings by 50 percent
December 8, 2004
There are some new answers to the invariable question: What's happening this weekend?

Metro State is now offering more than 140 classes on weekends, an increase of roughly 50 percent over Spring '04.

Called "Weekend Options," the expanded weekend schedule is designed to "give students a little more choice in how they fit classes into their lives," explains Carol Svendsen, director of Extended Campus. Running the spectrum of disciplines, weekend classes (for these purposes, the college defines the "weekend" as 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday) are offered in art, human services, health care management, political science and many other subjects.

In addition to the weekend schedule, many of the classes are compressed into eight weeks or alternative formats, making it possible for students to acquire the same number of hours in fewer weeks. Plus, students can choose weekend offerings at Metro's Auraria campus as well as Metro North and Metro South.

Students can also avail themselves of 11 new weekend hybrid classes offered Spring semester. The hybrid classes allow students "face" time with faculty and fellow students for half the class while providing the flexibility of the virtual classroom during the other half.
