CVA Presents William T. Wiley Exhibition
August 18, 2004

The Metro State Center for Visual Art (CVA) presents "William T. Wiley: 60 Works for 60 Years" from Aug. 19 through Oct. 16. The exhibition, which celebrates the career of one of the 20th century's most influential artists, opens with a reception on Aug. 26 from 7-9 p.m. and will also feature a performance by Wiley on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

Investigating prints created in the last three decades, the exhibition illustrates the cultural critiques and verbal mischief that are the hallmarks of Wiley's work. The artist enjoys challenging the viewer to examine how the meaning of a thought may change depending on how it is said.

Wiley's work engages multiple conceptual themes. For example, images of maps and travel symbolize efforts to find direction during time of personal or social transformation. The artist's love of language, especially manipulating it, forms an undercurrent of humor and wit throughout his work.

"William T. Wiley: 60 Works for 60 Years" is sponsored by US Alliance Credit Union. The CVA is located at 1734 Wazee Street and is open Tuesday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 303-294-5207.
