Outstanding Metro women to be honored at May 5 reception
April 27, 2005

The winners of this year's Outstanding Women Awards will be announced at the 18th annual awards reception on Thursday, May 5. The reception will be held at the Museo de las Americas from 6-7:30 p.m.

The awards reception serves two purposes, according to Cheryl Sipe, program assistant for the Institute for Women's Studies and Services. It is a celebration honoring women and a fundraiser for the Pamela McIntyre-Marcum Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship fund was established in 1987 to honor McIntyre-Marcum, a faculty member in Metro's Marketing Department who was shot and killed by her husband in a parking lot on the Auraria campus in 1987. The fund, intended for survivors of violence, reached its endowment goal in 1990, with the first scholarship awarded that year. Last academic year, four students received scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000.

The Outstanding Women Awards reception honors, promotes and recognizes those who support women throughout the college. Awards are presented to graduates, students, faculty, administrators and classified staff who have shown leadership or made a contribution to enhancing women's education, academic excellence or prominence in a particular field.

Tickets for the reception are $15 ($5 for students), the proceeds from which will support the scholarship fund. To attend the event or for more information call Sipe at 303-556-8441.
