Student government undergoes restructuring
July 20, 2005

The student government has reorganized. Last fall, the Student Government Assembly (SGA) passed a new constitution instituting three branches: executive, legislative and judicial.

Formerly, SGA was structured to consist of a president, several vice presidents, an attorney general, chief justice, SACAB representatives and the student trustee who serves on Metro State’s Board of Trustees. The new organization maintains the SACAB representatives and the student trustee, but restructures the remaining duties.

The executive branch will consist of a president and vice president, the SACAB representatives and the student trustee. The legislative branch will be the student senate, and will have 15 senators. The judicial branch, or student court, will consist of five justices.

In addition, the new constitution defines seven standing committees: student welfare and diversity, academic affairs, information technology, student fee and finance, shared governance, student outreach, and rules and ethics. SGA is recruiting students who are willing to serve on these committees.

The Student Government Assembly office is located in Tivoli 307 and can be reached at 303-556-3312.
