| Auraria AIDS team walks their talk |
August 10, 2005 |
| Metro State alumna Dorothy Hicks (’94), already has almost $1,500 in pledges for the 18th annual 5K AIDS Walk Colorado, to be held Aug. 21 in Denver’s Cheesman Park. Hicks is one of 26 people currently registered as a member of the Auraria Walk Team, a team she’s helped promote for about 15 years. A regular volunteer for the Colorado AIDS Project, Hicks got involved after the death of a close friend. “His youngest son was two when he died,” Hicks explains. “I felt like I had to help raise money to fight this.” In past years, the Auraria team has raised upwards of $14,000 for the Colorado AIDS Project, and according to Karen Benson, director of Auraria GLBT Student Services, “We have consistently been in the top 10 teams for amount of funds raised.” To become part
of the Auraria team or to make a donation, stop by the AIDS Walk table
stationed at the Tivoli, Aug. 16-18, or call GLBT Student Services,
303-556-6333.
