| Development Office exceeds goal |
July 20, 2005 |
| The Development Office surpassed its fundraising goal last fiscal year by about a third. Aiming to raise $1.5 million, the office received contributions totaling $2,113,920 in the fiscal year ending June 30. Of that amount, roughly half will provide scholarship support for Metro State students in the near future and, for the endowed funds, beyond. The other half supports programs within the college, such as the Center for Visual Art, Accelerated Nursing Program, Summer Science Institute and Family Literacy Center. Several new scholarships were established. The office entered into a partnership with Mile High United Way to provide full-ride academic scholarships for single mothers who will enter their junior year this fall. The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation continued its commitment of $80,000 and the Metro State Foundation made a matching gift of $40,000 for support of scholarships in the Accelerated Nursing Program. The Nadia Scholarship was established last year in honor of Nadia Barghelame, a Metro State student who died in December. Friends and family of Barghelame set up the scholarship fund for women pursuing a degree in aviation at Metro State. exceeded our goal—and exceeded it by so much—is exceptional,
particularly in a year of transition,” said Director of Development
Kendra Brooks. “It’s exciting to think what we’ll
be able to accomplish next year.” For more information about Development initiatives or questions about fund raising, call Brooks at 303-556-5145 or Brenda Byrne at 303-556-5154.
