Another enrollment record looms
August 24, 2005

Two days into the new semester, another enrollment record appears likely.

As of Tuesday, total enrollment was 21,143, which is 0.7 percent higher than the same point in time last year. State-funded full-year FTES (full-time equivalent students) was 7,253, which is 2 percent higher than the same point last year.

"At this point it appears that we will once again set a new record for fall enrollment, although the rate of increase is slowing which is in line with recent semester trends of slower growth," said Interim Director of Admissions Jim Morfeld. "This also appears to be true of a number of institutions in the state, which are indicating flat to small growth for fall."

Morfeld believes the Colorado Opportunity Fund (COF), the state's new means of appropriating money to colleges—through individual students—may be having some impact on enrollment. "While the process has been relatively smooth, some students are still confused about the amount of COF dollars they'll receive and that these dollars don't cover any of their share of the tuition."
