College awarded 2nd CAMP grant
Colorado Senator Ken Salazar has notified Metro State that it has been
awarded a second five-year, almost $2.1 million grant for the College
Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). The college's proposal was funded
in its entirety, which is highly unusual according to Joan Foster, interim
vice president for Academic Affairs.

the date for President’s Welcoming Ceremony
Mark your calendars
for September 7, 7:30-9:30 a.m., for the President’s Welcoming
Ceremony, when President Stephen Jordan will speak on his vision for
Metro State’s future as the preeminent public baccalaureate college
in the country.
In addition, the
ceremony will be the college community’s opportunity to congratulate
the Distinguished Service Award, Golden Key and Teaching Excellence
Award winners for 2005. The event will be held on Ninth St. Park and
will include breakfast.

Crownhart
named interim director of Advising Center
Skip Crownhart,
a fixture on the Auraria campus since 1979, has been named interim director
of the Advising Center. She will serve in the position while a national
search for a permanent director takes place.

The campaign to
get Metro State students to apply for the Colorado Opportunity Fund
(COF), the state legislature’s new way of appropriating money
to higher-education institutions through individual students, has been
very successful, but a number of students still need to complete the
process.

The Metro State
Board of Trustees’ regular monthly meeting will be held via telephone
conference call today, Aug. 3., 8 a.m.-noon, in CN 301. The agenda includes
only the approval of minutes and consent items regarding personnel.

Senior
scores two national video awards
When Matthew Kay
entered Metro State as a freshman in 2002, he had no idea what he wanted
to do. But today, as a senior majoring in technical communications,
he has two national awards to his name; confirmation, he says, of the
video editing/production career he has chosen.
