The palpable electricity at New Faculty Orientation on the morning of Aug. 16 was that of the first day of school, which was exactly the case for the 34 new tenure-track and tenured members of Metro State’s faculty. The daylong event, which featured presentations on everything from the college’s judicial process to online services, offered new professors a chance to become better acquainted with Metro State’s structure and governance. In welcoming the additional members to the college’s teaching force, Metro State President Stephen Jordan said, “We are looking to you to help us become the preeminent urban public baccalaureate college,” adding that, depending upon the outcome of Referenda C and D, 20 more tenure and tenure-track faculty will be hired in each of the next two years. Jordan outlined a series of near-term challenges for the school, such as the upcoming self-study for accreditation and the development of an academic strategic plan, and he urged this group to begin thinking about the nature and characteristics of a “21st century urban college.” In addition to filling vacant positions, the college added 20 new faculty positions across the college in the departments of Art, Human Services, Teacher Education, Nursing, Finance, Math, History, African American Studies and more. @Metro welcomes all the new faculty members:
