Family Literacy Program up for Toyota grant
August 3, 2005

Still on cloud nine over the awarding of the CAMP grant (see CAMP_twv3080305.htm), Adriann Wycoff is jetting off to Louisville, Ky today to participate in a training session for finalists for a $350,000 grant from the Toyota Family Literacy Program

With the help of Metro State development directors Brenda Byrne and David Rein, Wycoff, who in addition to being CAMP co-director also directs the college’s Family Literacy Program, put together a pre-application for the Toyota grant to fund a proposed partnership with three Denver Public School elementary schools.

“It was an interesting challenge to pull it all together in time,” Wycoff said. “I had to get Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and the new DPS superintendent Michael Bennet to sign off on the proposal in record time.”

According to Wycoff, 85 pre-applications were submitted for the Toyota grant. Between 12 and 14 were chosen to participate in the one-day training session at the National Center for Family Literacy. Ultimately, five of the partnerships will receive the grant.
