In offices across campus and downtown, Metro State employees are cleaning drawers and packing boxes in preparation for the move to new offices in the Student Success Building.
Over Spring Break, March 19-25, more than 300 full-time Metro State employees from 30 administrative offices will move into the brand-new building on the Auraria Campus. The move comes just over a year after the College broke ground on the building, which was entirely funded by student-approved fees.
All student support services and other administrative offices expect to reopen on Monday, March 26, in time for students returning from Spring Break.
Of particular note is the move of the First Year Success (FYS) program, a retention program that includes learning communities for first-year freshmen. FYS currently serves approximately 500 students and will grow to 2,000 students in the near future.
Sean Nesbitt, Metro State’s director of facilities planning and space management, is overseeing the migration of employees—now working in three separate locations—into centralized offices in the Student Success Building.
“With so many moving parts, we expect a few hitches, but we’re working to make it as smooth as possible,” he says. “This is exciting for the entire Metro State community, which has waited a long time for something like this.”
Nesbitt and a team of employees involved in coordinating the move have set schedules that include staggered move-in dates and times, and assigned department move coordinators who are ready to answer questions and point people in the right direction.
The College expects main telephone lines to be up and running the day of each office’s move. Callers who receive a voicemail message when calling offices in the SSB are encouraged to leave their names and contact information so a staff member can return calls promptly.
The College wants to ensure there will be no down time for enrollment services offices during the move and during the Spring Break holiday, Nesbitt says.
Faculty and staff are asked to consult with department move coordinators if they have any questions about the relocation, office assignments or opening-day timelines.

The Student Success Building, located parallel to Auraria Parkway between Seventh and Ninth Streets, will add some 151,000 square feet of space to the Auraria Campus.
