On Dec. 3, Metro State will hold a reception for the groundbreaking of the Student Success Building, the first Auraria Campus building constructed specifically for the College.
The reception is slated for 10:30 a.m., with the actual breaking of the ground by President Steve Jordan, student leaders and state dignitaries at 11 a.m. The new building will be located at 9th and Walnut sts., across from the Tivoli Auraria Parking Structure (TAPS).
The construction of the building is metaphorically a groundbreaking for the College in many ways. Director of Facilities, Planning and Space Management Sean Nesbitt says the Student Success Building represents a number of firsts for the College, including:

Site preparation begins late Nov.
Preparations for the groundbreaking begin Nov. 22. The entrance to the Tivoli Parking Lot will be closed off of 9th St., and the number of parking spaces available in the lot will be significantly reduced. The new entrance to the Tivoli Parking Lot will be from 7th and Walnut sts.
TAPS will remain open during construction, and its entrance will remain available from 9th St. and Auraria Pkwy.
The week of Nov. 22, Saunders Construction will set up construction fencing and begin demolition of asphalt within the project boundaries. Substantial construction activities will begin Dec. 20, the first week of Auraria’s Winter Break.
Construction is to be complete by April 2012.
