Metro State has announced its decision regarding College employees reporting to work the week of the Democratic National Convention, Aug. 25-29, 2008.

As there is a concern that there will be limited access, parking and transportation to the Auraria Campus and that Auraria does not have sufficient resources to adequately manage and safeguard those on campus during the DNC, Metro State is abiding with the decision of the Auraria Board of Directors that only essential personnel will be permitted access to Auraria Campus buildings and facilities during the convention.

Therefore, Metro State employees who are not designated as essential personnel (necessary to the continuation of services/operations at the College and not “essential” as defined under the Classified Personnel System) will be placed on paid Administrative Leave Aug. 25-29. However, nonessential employees are subject to the expectation that they must report to work if they are called by their supervisors.

"This is not considered vacation time, as all nonessential employees will be expected to return to work if called by their supervisor to do so," said Judy Zewe, executive director of human resources. 

Zewe added that if you have vacation plans, you should request annual leave.

Those Metro State employees who are deemed essential have been identified and will be notified in writing by the President’s Office.

Metro State and Auraria request that, unless called to the campus for an emergency, nonessential personnel should refrain from coming to campus to work during the Convention. Those who do will be presumed to be doing so for personal reasons unrelated to work, and will not be covered under Workers Compensation regulations for any injuries sustained while they are on campus during the convention.
