Yesterday’s announcement by the Joint Budget Committee of the
Colorado Legislature that it intends to cut an additional $300 million
in higher education funding has drawn considerable concerns and
questions from the Metro State community.
In response, Special Editions of @Metro will be sent daily – or more frequently if necessary – and posted on Today @Metro on MetroConnect in order to keep faculty, staff and students informed.
The $300 million dollars represent nearly half of the appropriation
that goes to all public universities and colleges in Colorado.
“As I explore what this means for Metro State, I’ll be meeting with
other higher education leaders, the trustees, and College constituent
groups such as Faculty Senate and SGA over the next few days,” says
President Stephen Jordan.
On Monday, Jordan will meet with the College’s vice presidents and
deans to discuss the ramifications of these cuts and look at different
scenarios. He also intends to hold another town hall meeting like he
did on Feb. 16 to inform faculty and staff of the College’s plans.
In addition to Special Editions of @Metro, the Web page, www.mscd.edu/president/higheredfunding
will serve to keep faculty and staff informed and provide links to news
articles and other pertinent information. Suggestions and questions can
be e-mailed to higheredfunding@mscd.edu.
