HSI collaboration brings photo exhibition to King Center

Jan 21, 2009

Estado de México, 120 x 56 CMS
Spurred by the College’s Hispanic Serving Institution initiative, the School of Letters, Arts and Sciences is continuing to collaborate with the Consulate General of Mexico and the Mexican Cultural Center to offer programs that enrich the cultural environment for all members of the College community.

“Camino Real Tierra Adentro…The Oldest Road in North America,” an exhibition of photographs by Eniac Martinez, will be hung on the walls of King Center Main Street Jan.29-Feb. 27. The College community is invited to a reception with the artist and Mexican Consulate on Jan. 29, 6-8 p.m. in the dance studio. Please RSVP to mdelamar@sre.gob.mx.

“Last year I co-chaired the Campus Climate Committee of the HSI Initiative, says LAS Dean Joan Foster. “We discussed the importance of making the campus environment more inclusive and welcoming to Latino students and to all students. This collaboration is one avenue toward that end.”

Eniac Martínez was born in Mexico City in 1959. He studied at the International Center of Photography, the National School of Visual Arts and the Cuban Institute of Art. He has had solo exhibitions and collective exhibits throughout the world and his work has been published in Independent magazine, Daily Telegraph, National Geographic, México Indígena, Luna Córnea and La Jornada.

“I’m also excited about the opportunity to reintroduce visual arts exhibits to the King Center,” adds Foster. “The performing and visual arts complement each other and Metro State’s outstanding Art, Music and Theatre departments are a means of showcasing the College.”
